Hospice Isle of Man & AbacusLandmark

As part of their ongoing corporate responsibility initiatives, AbacusLandmark group has shown their support to the Isle of Man based charity, Hospice Isle of Man, by donating the sum of £762.53 to its worthy cause.

Hospice Isle of Man is a registered charity that started in 1983. Since then, the Charity has been providing specialist palliative care and end of life care for people diagnosed with cancer and other life-limiting/ life-threatening conditions, and offering help to those people whose cancer may be cured. All the health care services are provided totally free to patients and their families.

More than 350 patients each year are being cared for by the Hospice and this comes at a cost of over £5m per year. Whilst being economically supported in part by the Isle of Man Department of Health and by an army of volunteers, the Charity mainly relies on fundraising and regular donations to meet its yearly target.

Over years the Charity has developed innovative ways of extending its care beyond the building so that people have more choice in how they live, and where they receive end of life care when the time comes. The Charity is indeed committed to providing ‘hospice influenced care’ that is well co-ordinated, flexible and personal to individuals when they need it, in a setting of their choice.”

The donation from AbacusLandmark was raised through a Staff Charity Salary Deduction Scheme, which offers staff the opportunity to donate money from their salaries each month. The total of staff salary donations at the end of each quarter are matched by the company and then donated to a chosen charity. Staff at AbacusLandmark also held a number of fundraising activities – such as cake and bake sales – all proceeds from which were added to the donation for Hospice Isle of Man.
